Old Man Emu - Rear Upper Shock Absorber Mount Kit

The Old Man Emu Rear Shock Mount Fit Kit is a conversion system for the Land Rover Discovery Series I, Range Rover Classic, and Defender. It replaces the factory rear upper shock mounts to facilitate a stud-to-stud mounting configuration.

This kit enables the installation of OME 63147-60147 NitroCharger Sport Shocks (stud-to-stud) in place of the standard OME 60039 units (eyelet-to-stud). Originally engineered by ARB to specifications requested by Bill Burke, the 60147 shocks maintain identical valving and travel lengths to the 60039 series but utilize the mounting geometry of the OME 60037 front shocks.

This conversion addresses a known mechanical vulnerability in extreme off-road conditions. During high-articulation maneuvers, the standard eyelet-style rear upper mounts are prone to binding and significant lateral stress. This mechanical strain can lead to the bending or total failure of the mounting eyelet. By transitioning to a double-stud configuration, the system utilizes rubber bushings that allow for greater angular deflection, effectively alleviating the stress concentrations that cause eyelet fatigue.

By standardizing all four damping positions to a stud-to-stud interface, the vehicle achieves component interchangeability. This configuration allows a single OME 60147 or 60037 unit to serve as a universal spare for any corner of the vehicle, optimizing field recovery logistics and reducing redundant inventory.
