This rear axle set includes 681.5mm and 949mm shaft pairs, compatible with Defender 90 (1994 onwards) and Defender 110/130 (2002 onwards), as well as Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic models. Modern modifications like aggressive tyres, increased horsepower, and differential locks place extreme stress on standard driveline components. These heavy-duty shafts and CV joints are now essential upgrades for serious enthusiasts. Since space within standard axles is limited, durability is achieved through superior material specification and advanced heat treatment rather than size increases. Manufactured from SAE4340 alloy steel—a high-nickel chromoly-molybdenum composition—both shafts and CV joints undergo a rigorous 3-stage heat treatment process. This combination delivers exceptional strength and elasticity, protecting not only the half shafts themselves but also the differentials and transfer box from damage. The resulting components are significantly stronger and more resilient to shock loads than standard parts. Raptor CV joints feature a 30mm centre with 23 splines and are precision-machined from the same SAE4340 chromoly material for maximum durability. These shafts are designed for 24 spline differentials and come with grease pre-applied to the CV joints. As a direct replacement for original parts, they enable piecemeal or complete driveline upgrades. Covered by a 5-year limited warranty, maximum tyre diameter is 35".
