Rear Wide Angle Propshaft - Terrafirma Fitment: Defender 110 - 300TDI /V8/TD5 Compatible with 300TDi (1994-1998), V8 (1994-1998), and TD5 (1998-2002) models. During manufacturing, 4x4 propshaft angles are precisely engineered relative to the end flanges to render universal joint vibration imperceptible. Universal joints are phased out of synchronisation to further control vibration. Suspension modifications that raise the vehicle alter these critical propshaft angles, frequently resulting in noticeable vibration. While aggressive mud tyres and engine noise typically mask this vibration in hardcore off-road use, road-oriented lifted vehicles often experience intrusive noise and vibration that requires correction. Installing a double cardan joint at the gearbox end provides the most effective vibration elimination. Double cardan propshafts feature two universal joints connected by an intermediate shaft and phased together to counteract the speed fluctuations of single joints, successfully reducing vibration on vehicles with approximately 2" of lift. Vehicles lifted beyond 2" may find even double cardan joints insufficient to manage shaft angles without vibration. It's important to note that wide angle propshafts don't directly cure suspension-related vibrations by changing shaft angles; apparent improvements typically result from the new shaft's improved condition. Wide angle propshafts serve a different purpose: they're essential for vehicles with extended travel suspension systems where full axle articulation would cause the original yoke to bind, potentially straining joints or locking the shaft, which can cause catastrophic failure.
